Taylored Expressions August Studio Challenge

Hello!  It's time for the Baker's Dozen Studio Challenge. This is a monthly opportunity for the Taylored Expressions team to share what makes our stamping studios hum. Each month we have a fun, crafty question or theme so we can share our favorites, some tips and tricks, stamping advice and more!

The question for August is:

The Sky's the Limit! There are so many ways to create sky backgrounds for our cards and projects. Often times, our blog readers are left staring at a beautiful sky and asking "How'd she do that?"
Show us one of your favorite ways to create a pretty sky background and make sure we know how to re-create it!

I'm not much of an expert when it comes to sky backgrounds so I can't wait to read about all of the different techniques!  My favorite way to create a sky bg is to use the fabulous Taylored Expressions Cloud Border Die, a sponge dauber, and an ink pad.  Today I used SU Baja Breeze:

To start, I stamped these adorable snowmen from the TE set The Cool Crowd with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and colored them up with Copics.  I then stamped the image once again and quickly cut it out to use as a mask.

I placed the mask over my image and started sponging the border of the Cloud Border Die.

I moved the die down and sponged again

and again

and again, making sure to keep my mask in place.

This is what it looks like when I'm done, and here is the finished card:

I added the snowy hill using a Build a Scene Rolling Hills Die and the border was cut with the Open Scallop Border Die.  I also stamped the sentiment onto a Label Stacklets 3 Die.  The dp is My Mind's Eye Winter Wonderland.

I hope you enjoy all of the sky background tutorials today!  Thank you so much for stopping by and have a terrific Tuesday!
