Tonight was a really sad night for us. It started out great. My husband grilled hamburgers and hotdogs and we sat out back on the patio for dinner. I went inside to get some ice cream for the kiddos when I heard Hannah (our 10 y.o. Yorkie) kind of choking. She had run into the house so I called for her and she came out to me. I could tell she was in distess and was choking on something. She couldn't get any breaths in her. I tried to pound on her back, and push on her stomach, and stick my hand in her throat, but it wouldn't loosen. We ran her to my neighbor's house and they tried several things as well with no luck. On a Sunday evening, the only emergency vet that was open was 30 minutes away, but my husband and neighbor hopped into the car and tried to make it. About halfway there, we lost her. I keep thinking about it and crying because I just feel like I should have been able to help her. My kids witnessed the whole thing, and my daughter is pretty upset. It was hard getting her to sleep tonight.
We'll miss you, Hannah. You were the spunkiest little dog we knew, and super friendly to everyone you met! I don't know how many people offered to take her off our hands during the time we had her, just because they fell in love with her! I just took this picture of her the other day, so I thought I would share it. Thanks for listening.
